Each competition period runs
from one club meeting to the next. Returnable trophies will be awarded for both
glider and electric each month. Non-returnable
trophies will be awarded at the AGM for the best performances throughout the
year.
During the month each member can make four
scoring flights with a glider and/or four with an electric powered glider.
For a flight to count it MUST BE
NOMINATED BEFORE LAUNCH. Ideally another BMFC member should witness and
time your flight BUT if no one is available you are trusted to do it yourself!
You can choose to nominate all four
flights on one day or spread them throughout the month. However, don’t leave it too late as you may
be caught with less than three flights on your card!
Glider flights are timed from
line release, electric from launch.
If the launch goes wrong then, provided
you land within 1 minute, you may re-launch.
If you are forced to land by the presence
of a full-size aircraft then you are entitled to a replacement flight.
There are no restrictions on the
timings of motor runs during an electric flight.
To keep scoring simple, and assuming that
you will succeed more often than fail, landing points will be deducted
not added. If you fail to make the landing area, one minute should be deducted
from your flight time. To provide some handicapping, beginners will be allowed
to land anywhere ‘on the grass’. Old hands should land within 30
paces of a spot declared before the beginning of the flight.
At the end of the month, choose your best
three flights from the four (after adjustment for failed landings). Convert
times into seconds and add them together. Hand in score at next meeting
(you may send it with someone else or e-mail it, if you can’t get there). If
you only nominate one or two flights then your total score will be low
but please hand it in anyway as you may still win the annual trophy.
