Chelmsford DF 20/03/09
Philip with a Maxi, Mini and Micro Tx
See information on changes to Chelmsford events, tickets, slots etc. here

Philip was relatively kind to us having the three Txs located roughly in a 200m triangle. He had a bit of excitement when he tried to find his own Maxi after setting up Mini and Micro. He had forgotten to take his DF set, fortunately the Maxi was on automatic thus, while he was still looking for it, we were on our way.
Tim found all three first 20,20,20 (60!) Converts to 9 Chelmsford points. (Hmmm, he seems to be doing rather well on this type of event).
Peter was second at the Maxi and Mini but last at the Micro. 15,15,8 (38) - 6 CP
Andrew was third at all three 11,11,11 (33) - 4 CP
Roy was fourth at Maxi and Mini but second at the Micro 8,8,15 (31) - 3 CP (I feel the rules need some final tweaking ........!)
All competitors opted to find Philip first, despite the fact that this is probably the slowest strategy - insecurity?
The tickets seemed to work really well in this simple context (single Maxi and competitors with no onsite helpers). Hopefully this won't lead to less people in the car because for me DF should be a social thing. If we can persuade our navigators to pick up a set and have a try on their own that would be great. On site the mini was definitely the hardest to find, the micro really was a bit easy but great for encouraging a beginner. So come on guys dust down the DF sets and lets get some beginners looking for them.
A few words from Peter:
Well done Phil on non too obvious site ( it wasn't near Manningtree either!)
Just right amount of difficulty for a 3 TX site on a dark evening event ( or 3.5 as Phil had to be found again to register other 2 TX's)
Will a single evening or a Sunday double now seem effortless ?
A 1 minute transmission is hard work, especially at the start when there is a QSO on same frequency, even on site a minute is barely enough.
But a guaranteed transmission every 5 minutes does give the opportunity to be able to choose where and when to take bearings !
Good idea to use tear-off slips for proof of visit to Mini and Micro TX.
Next Chelmsford event is Sunday May 10th - Andrew will be entertaining us .............................. hope to see you there,
Roy
